United States Pony Club

The United States Pony Club is the largest youth equestrian organization in the world that teaches riding and horse management. This is where it all begin! The cornerstones of the foundation are education, safety, sportsmanship, stewardship and FUN. Members learn riding and the care of horses through mounted sports and unmounted sessions. The skills, habits, and values instilled through horsemanship will apply to every part of a member's life.

For 50 years, the Pony Club Grounds at Deary, Idaho has opened its gates to thousands of children and adults to participate in equestrian sports, camps and clinics to improve horse management skills, and enjoy the magic of Deary.

Betty Tukey, the driving force behind the Paradise Creek Pony Club (former know as the Palouse Hills Pony Club) arrived in Pullman in 1966. Within a year she located a barn, re-established an official chapter of Pony Club, and began giving group lessons to young boys and girls. Craig, George and Iola Hatley's son became a member of the new pony club. Children 'shared' horses, tack, board and even boots. But Betty had an even bigger dream; a place where kids and horses could camp and compete in Pony Club Rallies - team competitions that include dressage, stadium jumping, cross country jumping, and stable management. George, who was designated a "legend" for his efforts on behalf of USPC, offered his summer ranch in Deary, Idaho as the site for the Pony Club Grounds - a facility for young and old riders.

The Paradise Creek Pony Club will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Grounds on June 24-25, 2017. We will look back over the years and see how far we have come and re-live those magical moments.

As we approach our Golden Anniversary, we are fundraising to continue to improve the facilities at the Deary Pony Club Grounds so that we can continue to ensure that young riders and adults have opportunities to learn, compete and have fun in this memorable setting.
